Love in the Sunshine English Version：Volunteering on Hong Kong's Outlying Islands
RSS 最後由 編輯
Established in 2017, Capering Holistic Medical Alliance (CHMA) is a voluntary organization which joins professionals from disciplines of Western medicine, Chinese medicine and psychotherapy to deliver suitable help and care to those in need. Lam Kar-yeung, a registered Chinese medicine practitioner and the founder of CHMA, believes that they can help patients more effectively with the diverse expertises and skills of members. They offer services in Hong Kong's outlying islands, hoping to bring support to remote areas with relatively less medical facilities. During every visit, volunteers would perform blood glucose tests, measure blood pressure for the elderlies and follow up on their health conditions. The organization’s goal is to prevent the elderlies from getting sick, therefore, many health seminars were organized, teaching a variety of self-care skills, such as acupressure and towel exercises.
CHMA also offers training to volunteers of different ages, for example, Yu Pak-hei, a 13 year-old boy, has served in the team for 5 years. Dr. Wong Kiu-fung, the co-founder of the CHMA, believes that if everyone could gain correct health information, there would be less outpatient, hence relieving the pressure on the local health care system indirectly.
